An OCTG enquiry should distinguish casing, production tubing and accessories, then define the dimensions, material, connection and acceptance requirements for each line. PatLoc coordinates sourcing from the buyer’s schedule. Well design, grade selection and approval of any substitution remain with the responsible technical team.
Start with a separate line for each tubular requirement
List casing and tubing separately. Include outside diameter, wall thickness or nominal weight, material grade, length requirements, quantity and unit. If the programme contains several strings or delivery phases, retain those references in the schedule. Avoid mixing lengths, joints and total weight without stating which quantity is being purchased.
Specify the connection precisely
Use the full connection designation rather than “threaded pipe” or a general connection family. Name the approved manufacturer and any project requirement for a particular mill, licensed connection or matching accessory. Include couplings, pup joints, crossovers and protectors as distinct lines where they are required. The supplier’s proposal must be checked against the exact interface.
Identify the governing specification and edition
State the customer-specified standard and edition, plus project-specific requirements. API identifies Specification 5CT as its casing and tubing specification; this does not make every listed OCTG item compliant or confirm a source’s licence. Check the specified edition, applicable amendments and manufacturer evidence during the technical and commercial review.
Agree inspection, marking and document handover
Define the required material records, inspection and test documents, traceability, markings and acceptance process before purchase. If customer witnessing or a nominated inspection provider is required, name it in the enquiry. Confirm how records will be associated with the supplied goods and when they must be available for review.
Include delivery and preservation requirements
State lengths, destination, required delivery phases, packing and protection requirements. Highlight constraints on handling or storage that the source needs to consider. Availability and lead time are specific to the requested size, grade, connection, source and document scope; a catalogue page is not a stock confirmation.
A practical schedule to send
Use the following as an information checklist rather than an engineering design template. Add approved drawings or specifications where a short schedule does not capture the requirement.
- Item / string reference and casing or tubing designation
- Outside diameter, weight or wall thickness, grade and lengths
- Exact connection, approved manufacturer and quantity
- Specified standard / edition and additional project requirements
- Inspection, traceability, packing, destination and required delivery
